Heat-Related Illness Part 2
People who work outdoors are more likely to become dehydrated and are more likely to get heat-related illness:
- Drink two (2) to four (4) cups of water every hour while working.
- DO NOT wait until you are thirsty to drink.
- Spend time in air-conditioned buildings during breaks and after work.
- Encourage co-workers to take breaks to cool off and drink water or fluid with electrolytes such as Gatorade.
- Begin drinking plenty of water or Gatorade two days before going back for crew change.
- Look out for others on your job site and let someone know if someone looks cold, pale or clammy
Job Supervisors insure each crew member has a copy of this SAFETY ALERT and that this topic is discussed and documented during each Safety Meeting
